Developing a great app with a high degree of involvement and sophistication can be an expensive business. Especially when you consider the upfront cost of developing an app for four separate platforms (Apple, Android, Blackberry and Microsoft). Moreover Android has it's own derivatives based on the various hardware manufacturers: Amazon, Motorola, HTC and Samsung.
